Golf Grip
Having the correct golf grip is very
important as its the only way you'll sink that ball
consistently. Have you ever changed your grip &
completely messed up a put, probably more
often than not its best to stick with what you have as
long as its working for you. There are several grips you
can choose from, the overlapping grip, the interlock &
the ten finger grip are probably the most common golf
grips around today.
So lets take a look at these grips in detail. The
overlapping grip is probably the most widely used grip
on the golf course, almost everyone has used this grip
at one stage in their lives. So how does it work? you
should take your little finger on the trailing hand &
put it between the index & middle finger on the lead
hand. Once you do this you'll notice how comfortable the
feel of the club is & this is why its one of the most
popular grips around. There are several great
golf videos on
the market today that will show you exactly how to do
this.
Another common grip is the interlock grip. Many of the
professionals swear by this grip & its used widely on
the professional circuit. What this grip basically does
it to lock both hands together. Its very useful for
players with weak wrists or forearms or even people with
small hands. So how does it work? put your little finger
from your trailing hand & intertwine it with the index
finger on your lead hand. Again, if you're a beginner
you should think about using this technique as its
probably one of the safest plays, if anything it should
give you a good grounding & you can always change your
grip style later on.
The next golf grip is the ten finger grip which is not
too popular but it does seem to work for some people,
its up to you to go with the grip that suits your body.
Again like the interlocking grip, the ten finger grip
can be useful for those with weak hands or small hands
or for elderly players. Its very easy to do, just start
with a lead hand grip & place your little finger of the
trailing hand next to the index finger of the lead hand.
Which ever grip you choose be sure to keep a check on
your balance before you take your shot, after all,
there's no point in having a great grip if you're all
off balance now is there? Once you've got your lower
body steady & your taking your shot from the waist up &
you've found a grip that suits you, then you're on form,
you've got everything you need to become a great golf
player, except for the choice in clubs but then again
that's another story.
