You might
play well from the tee, you may even be a great at
putting on the green but if you cant pitch you're your
game might be in jeopardy. You see many golf players can
hit quiet a good tee shot & what they mess up on the tee
shot they'll gain on the green but many forget about in
between & that's the pitching shot. To become good at
pitching you need to get a feel for the ball, you need
to be able to work out distances correctly.
Working out the distance is most
important when pitching because this is the one shot
that can make or break you. Many players make a complete
pigs ear out of a pitching shot & have to make up for it
on the green, this is something you don't need as you
should have made up for all your mess ups before you
start putting. Probably a good place to invest would be
in a good golf DVD,
you'll learn a great deal from these lessons & you can
watch them again & again until you get it right.
It goes without saying that getting as
close to the green as possible is what you want from a
good pitching shot. Generally a pitching shot is taken
anywhere from 100 to 150 yards so calculating your
distance is very important if you want to get as close
to the green as possible. What many players don't know
is that keeping the handle of your club just a little
ahead of the ball can work wonders for your shot. So
once the handle of the club is ahead of the ball you can
then put the face of the the club behind the ball while
holding the club in a slanting position. By following
this advice, you'll improve your pitching way beyond
what you're doing at present.
Another good tip for a great pitching
shot is the back spin. many of the great players around
the world realise just how important the back spin can
be. We've all hit a great shot onto the green only to
see it fly off at high speed. There is a way around this
& its quiet easy to put into place. When you're about to
hit the ball just open the face of your club, this will
give it great back spin & the the higher it goes the
better the back spin so give it a good whack.
Its also recommended to keep your body steady during the
shot, you can do this by leaning so that the majority of
your weight is on the front of your foot. Remember to
keep your weight on the front of your foot even as you
make the swing back, never put your weight on your heal
when taking the shot, by doing this you'll be assured to
make a great pitching shot that may even get you
directly onto the green. Finally, make sure you follow
through on a shot when you hit the ball, don't stop
short, just let the shot flow & this will ensure that
you make the distance.
