Golf Putting
Over
thinking a putt can have serious consequences for your
game. Double guessing while putting is probably one of
the worst things you can do while on the green. Many
players fall
foul on the green because they take far too long to take
their put, they over compensate & usually hit the ball
too far. Many players take
golf lessons to improve your putting but
you can invest in a good golf video & this will be just
as good if not batter.
The trick is to take your put in under 10 seconds after
your practice put, by doing this you'll still have the
feel for the shot & this can make all the difference to
your game. What many players know but don't put into
practice is that their first choice of shot was the
correct one. How many time have you changed your put at
the last second only to mess it up & then rant & rave to
yourself that if only you took your first choice you'd
have made the putt.
We've all been there, even the professional golf players
have their bad days, they can make monumental mistakes
also but they usually get them sorted out relatively
quickly because they follow a code & although sometimes
they can drift away from it, they will eventually return
to it as they realise its the only way to play a good
game.
When on the green, its better to keep things simple
rather than over complicating matters, lets face it,
putting is just rolling the ball so once you get this
into your head it should calm you down a bit. You should
always have a routine when on the green, most of the top
players of the world will have their own routine & they
will stick to it no matter what happens, by doing this
they keep it consistent.
Keep it simple, before you take your stroke make sure
you take a look from behind the ball about half way from
your stroke & backwards also, by doing this you'll have
a better feel for the green, you'll see the layout a lot
better & be able to take better strokes. Always remember
to keep the lower body stabilized when putting, when you
keep your lower body stable you can swing the putter
above the waste a lot easier. Remember, you don't have
to follow what other players do, you should follow your
own style so if you're a shoulder driven putter, then go
for it or you may prefer a hands driven putter, its up
to you.
